Do you Travel, If so how far?

Once upon a time, far, far, away ….. That’s how a lot of fairy tales start out. What makes your fairy tale dream wedding any different? Sometimes my clients are not getting married in the Gainesville, Ocala, or surrounding Central Florida areas, so do I travel? Yes. I cover a very large market from Jacksonville to West Palm, and from the East Coast of Florida to the West Coast of Florida. There is a small travel fee to some areas but, most of the time there isn’t. I’m still waiting on a destination Wedding in one of the beautiful islands in Hawaii or in the Caribbean… Hint Hint

New Dance Lighting

Well it’s been a year since I updated my lighting so, I started shopping around and found two (2) more lights that fit my needs. First, since 99% of all my events are Weddings I have to make sure that you, my clients are happy with the way my equipment looks so, they are solid BLACK. Second, I have to be happy with the way it works.

I’m happy to say that the two (2) new lights are American DJ and use L.E.D. for lighting instead of a normal light bulb and also are DMX controlled(Computer software controlled). They are VERY bright, require less power, and I can program them to match your wedding colors ….. within reason.

I had three (3) events this weekend and was able to use them and they worked GREAT!! I also have a bridal show that I may be doing over at Black Diamond Ranch in a few months so I’ll keep you posted on date and time. Also, on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011 at 7:30am I will be at the Ocala Hilton. Along with a couple of others, I’ll be doing a 8 minute presentation to other business professionals and interested clients about my business success and how I help my clients. Please call me or email me so I can reserve a seat for you and I’ll also cover your admission fee. Currently there will be around 70 people attending. I know it’s early so, after the meeting I’ll take you out and buy you a coffee at Panera or Starbucks. See ya there.

Turning a Catastrophe into a FairytaleWeddings are a “Once in a Lifetime” event, there are no do-overs. You can’t reschedule for tomorrow. This is an event that starts out bad but, turns into a happy ending. There were some bad storms that rolled through Jacksonville, and Orange Park, Florida this weekend. I arrived at the venue 2 hours early to set up 3 separate sound systems, the Ceremony, the Cocktail Hour, and the Reception. As I’m getting out of my truck I hear what sounds like a gun shot. A tree branch fell and broke a power-line and then 2(two) transformers blow up that supply power to the venue. The power company says they need to send out a crew to take care of the trees before they can fix the power issue.Well in one of my other Blogs I talked about a “Plan C” …. In the past I brought enough battery power for only 2 hours. A few months ago I purchased even more battery power as a back up. I now bring enough battery power to run all night if I had to. A generator would have been a cheaper route but they are too loud and since I do Weddings on the Beach, battery power is the best option.On Saturday, the Preceremony music started at 6:30 and the Reception ended at Midnight. I was able to run the music and lighting seamlessly for the entire night using just my battery systems.

At the end of the night the Venue, Photographer and myself were wore out mentally and physically from all the stress. But, the best part …… We kept the stress off the Bride and Groom. It’s their day to enjoy the company of the Family and Friends that came to support them. And the Bride just sent me an email on her honeymoon that said,

“I just wanted to send a quick email to all of you to thank you for all of your hard work on Saturday. I know the day did not run smoothly and easily for you guys, but for Mike and I, our families and our guests, the day was so smooth. I know that only happened because we had the best of the best vendors. Thank you again for all of your hard work–especially for all of the things that I don’t know about, because I know there was a lot of behind-the-scenes decisions on Saturday! I would love to write some glowing recommendations for all of you for your ability to turn horrible circumstances into a seamless event, so please let me know the best way for me to do that!”

Well Kate …. You just did! I’d like to say a BIG …… THANK YOU to all the staff and vendors that came together to make Kate and Mike’s day turn out like it did!!

D. I. Y. …. Do It Yourself Parties and Events. Do I need to hire a DJ?

In todays economy many people are looking for ways to cut costs and still have a GREAT Party or Event. From a DJ’s point of view, why would someone pay hundreds of dollars for me to come and play background music for a Dinner, small Birthday Party, small Anniversary Party or some other "Non-dance" function? The amount of money that you would spend on a "Mobile Jukebox" you could buy a nice portable CD/MP3 Player that could entertain a small group.

So when should you hire a DJ? If you are entertaining more than 50 people and want a broad music selection, take request and have the songs requested, wireless microphones, dancing, and last but not least, someone to help coordinate the event and take some of the stress off of you.

Since you are here reading this you are looking for a Wedding DJ.There are many different types of DJs, Radio DJs, Club DJ, Wedding DJs, Birthday Party DJs, etc…. and ALL these DJs bring some special skill. Now what about cost?

Some DJs will quote you a lower price to get you to book them and then all the other additional fees show up in the contract. Travel Fees, Mandatory gratuity for the DJ, Penalties/Fees if the venue has stairs instead of elevator, etc. I have seen and heard of many different scenarios. Within the past 2 weeks I’ve had 3 brides call me about doing different things for them that their DJ can’t do. So, to make sure their day turns out just as they envisioned they have hired me to assist the DJ that they hired.

A value isn’t a value, unless you get what YOU want at the price YOU want to pay. Shop around, find the DJ that fits into your plans and is prepared …… It pays to plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.

Marion County Literacy Council "Kiss The Horse For Literacy"

I have the privilege of helping out the Marion County Literacy Council over at the "OEC" (Ocala Entertainment Complex) on December 3rd, 2010. My friend Marianne Howanitz won the 2009 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Rookie of the Year competition in Oklahoma City and will be riding her horse "Stingray Whiz" during this event.

This fundraising event will benefit Marion County Literacy Council a nonprofit agency that teaches adults to read and speak the English language.
